"Stability" is a hallmark of totalitarian systems. So are a lot of other things. Believe me, you aren't the first one to lament the "peace and quiet" of Saddam's graveyard. Particularly disgusting are the complaints of those Iraqis who held favored positions in his regime, and were in fact doing much better back then. It's like listening to a white guy bitching about how much better South Africa used to be, or a pampered Southern plantation owner's daughter in the late 1800s lamenting the glory days when she was wealthy and prosperous.
The Left was supposed to be about freedom, individual rights, women's rights, and all the other things that our current enemies want to grind into the dirt. So virulently hostile is the far Left toward the West and its values that it will ally itself with the Islamists, and particularly in Europe, is beginning to do so.
To hear idiotic liberals complaining about the Patriot Act and largely hallucinatory ideas about the destruction of the Constitution, in the face of the values on the other side of this war, again shows why they should never be voted into the halls of power.
Just as an aside:
Here's a nice timeline on Rwanda. Please note the dates, and what's happening when.
