But in the old days of Trek fandom, there was a lot of fringe focus on what was known as K/S stories, usually written by females fans who wanted Kirk and Spock to do what we would now call the Brokeback Mountain Effect.

Apparently it is still around. I think a lot of it stems from a misunderstanding of male friendship.
