Cripe Scott, you're smarter than that. Yes, anyone in this great country can start their own business but in the oil business, unless you were there when it all began, there isn't a snowball chance in hell in gaining any part of the marketplace. Even if you could get your foot in the door now, it'd take decades to build your business where you could even begin to compete.
It'd be like programming a new operating system and taking on Microsoft. Even if your product was vastly superior, you'd be no more than an itch on their butt.
We don't owe these giant corporations huge profits. They owe this country and their customers over the decades for providing this immense opportunity to them to be so successful. During good times nobody begrudges the wheels of free enterprise but during bad times and emergencies, it's hard to be sympathetic when billionaires don't kick in a bit. What would it hurt one of the major oil companies to get on tv and address the public saying they were going to cut their pump prices by 10 cents a gallon during the last hurricane? They'd still make outrageous profits but the good will would've diffused all this talk.
