I haven't really made any major financial mistakes in life but this isn't about my personal finances Scott. Life is more than just money and possessions. It's simply about greed in a time when you'd expect Americans to sacrifice a bit. I probably own some stock in some of these companies but I find no real pride in it in spite of what success my 401k has because of them.
Interesting ideal you have of what it takes to be a successful citizen in this country. It seems you're saying that you don't have to create anything, put out any sweat and toil, grow crops, take on tasks that you'd rather not do. No, that's too hard. Let's simply sit back with our few dollars and invest them in companies that will do all the work for us and watch our wealth grow. I think the last time in our country that was considered the way to wealth and power was in the 1920's. Wasn't a pretty sight.
I'm not saying that when people get a few extra dollars, it's a bad strategy to make investments in corporations. I just think that the attitude is becoming one in which it's becoming the sole source of income and path to success for way too many people. Hope it does you well. Were it my only way to pay the bills, I'd have trouble sleeping at night.
