Not really sure which of my friends are on the "left" but the few that are a bit west of me hardly ever read the NY Times. They get their news from multiple sources and would put the editorial comment of a single source publication in perspective with the big picture. Sounds to me like it's not the "left" you're worried about. Does this insecurity also hit you when gay people are around you?
Man Scott, with fears of Muslim media takeovers, Iranian nukes, and all the other things out to get you, you must never get any sleep. No wonder you're always so contrary. Take some advice from an old guy. Life's dangerous. Try not to do stupid things that end it too early and be nice to people. It's guaranteed to give you lots of allies that will enhance your survivability should crap happen. Also, the monsters you thought were under your bed when you were a kid.....they weren't there, just smelly socks. Even they mellow out with age.
