I remember a "King of the Hill" episode where Bobby was supposed to bag his first deer, and Hank, in desperation, takes him to a hunt club where a baited feeding station is placed near a blind. A deer comes up to start eating, and Bobby aims his gun. After a moment, he puts it down.
"This ain't right, is it, Dad?"
"No, son," says Hank. "It isn't." And they go home. Bobby, driving the car as a favor from his Dad, hits a deer on the way home, which kind of dilutes the moral, but there it is.
My own Dad was a pheasant hunter when I was a kid. It was meat on the table. I learned to spit out the b-bs when I ate. My Mom hates pheasant now. He went after wild ones, with game limits, out in the fields after harvest.
Shooting farm-raised pheasants by the hundreds may not be illegal, or damaging to a species, but it sure as hell isn't what I call "hunting." Why not just go into a chicken barn and start blazing away?
