The point, TOM, is that WE are now the ones responsible for the current conditions in that country.

We can argue about how much more the Iraqis would have suffered in your alternate universe. That is not the point, that is NOT why we, the American people, went into this war.

So when 1500 hundred die because of this "Not a civil war" it is because of our actions. When some kid is beheaded on film to protest the occupation we bear some responsibility- the fact that the one doing the beheading is evil scum that should be dead does not absolve us of the fact that we created the conditions for his actions. Our actions in this war have been un justified and incompetent.

The current justifications for this war are in no way connected to our original justifications.

Was saddam and his flunkies the essence of evil? Yup... will I SMILE at his execution? yup... Do I feel it is good that we have killed so many IN OUR NAME and committed atrocities and accidents IN OUR NAME and TORTURED IN OUR NAME.. HELL NO!

How much was this war predicted to cost by this incompetent administration and its media whores? WE ARE APPROACHING HALF A TRILLION WITH NO END IN SIGHT!!! So we could pull out now, fine- it collapses into another terrorist haven that has millions with reasons to REALLY hate us... we could stay in and let this drag on...

How the hell is it that the fact that 10's of thousands are dead in your name leaves you so damn cold? MAYBE the hundreds of billions of dollars blown on this war could touch your soul if the human lives can't?
