McFly is right.
More here.
This has come up around here in California more than once, and long before 9/11. A standard child's kirpan is about as sharp as a butter knife, and costs about six bucks. This controversy is as silly as those schools that boot kids out for wearing a small crucifix around their neck.
There are Sikh kids at my son's school (they wear kind of a wrap around their head, not a turban), and I don't give a rat's ass if they're carrying one of those little penknives or not. As for adults, I have no more problem with responsible adults carrying knives as I do with them carrying guns.
Sikhs took a lot of undeserved crap after 9/11 from people who thought "turban = Muslim."
