Off Topic » in reply to Dr. Who new series now showing on Sci-Fi channel. Check listings.

Saw, and taped, first two episodes Friday night.

I watched Who, pretty much every incarnation of 'em (I thought there were nine lives, and the master managed to extend that), when I was in Grad School. I couldn't afford cable then. The local PBS station showed two hours worth of Who on Sunday mornings. I'd get a stack of newspapers, a pot o' coffee, and diverse breakfast items and make a morning of it.

Sure, the sets were taped together, and the "science" was silly, and the plots often made no sense, but they were often good stories, all the same. And some of those female companions were really cute. Those of you who are not familiar with the series may want to rent some of the Tom Baker episodes, or the episodes that managed to write several of the Doctors into the same episode.

Always thought the TARDIS was cool, kinda like snoopy's dog house (I think snoopy was a Time Lord). It's in the top five of the fictional space vehicles I'd want to have.

The current series lives up to the old ones, better than that Made-for-TV movie some time back. The new Doctor has the same nonchalant smart-ass flavor while retaining a sense of sadness or melencholy that comes from haveing been through as much as the good Doctor has.

I liked the guy who had files on the Doctor through history, the conspiracy guy. They should have had pictures of the other Doctors though: a sketch by Da Vinci of the Tom Baker incarnation, John Pertwee (sp?) in de-classified UNIT photos, etc....

I'm looking forward to the rest of the series and am glad that SciFi Channel picked up the series. Almost makes up for cancelling Farscape.
