The article had a few errors, but was interesting.
Each of the slabs is surrounded by an array of 2,880 light-emitting diodes, like the ones in a clock radio. errr - nope, laser diodes are a bit different than alarm clock LED's

The FEL part was interesting, I came close to working on one at BNL- I actually saw one...

TRW aquired the company the company I worked with at my last job- they built the 1.5 kW laser I used- so I probably know a few of the guys on the solid state project.

If you asked me 10 years ago I would have said lasers as weapons would not be possible, but now, well it is very possible, and certain to happen.

I dont feel good about that.
