There are cancer patients here in Australia denied access to drugs because they are too expensive for our government to pay for. Individuals are left to make the decision to mortgage the house for a few months extra life.
The drug companies sure aren't giving this stuff away, I can assure you...
(And yes, if we were smart enough and big enough we could do it ourselves cheaper, but we're not - for a very long list of reasons including restrictive patents, globalisation, brain drain, salaries, and the jokingly low value placed by our own nation on research)
