re: The Book First Man
I finally finished it too. One thing that struck me was that he took a lot of time, in the beginning, debunking stories about himself that were at best exaggerations and at worst complete fabrications. One teacher claimed to be a mentor, but Neal hardly remembers him. Good book. I recommend it.
I am about finished with “Riding Rockets”. It contains lots of surprising stuff, at least for me. It was in many cases very funny. One story had me laughing out loud. He is also quite critical of NASA; especially it’s command structure in the astronaut office, and John Young in particular.
