"There may be many good reasons to be out of Iraq, but this is not one of them."
Let's see. Contrary to the belief that we need more US soldiers in Iraq, we probably had too many. And since Iraq security forces are now much more capable, we need to reduce our presence [have smaller footprint]- the rumors that we going reduce our forces by 30,000 in next few months is good news- if true.
There are also rumor/speculation that we have and will have major miltary base in Iraq. I don't know if this is such a great idea. The major determining factor for me, would depend on Iraq political will in this regard. I don't think we should push this idea very hard. If I had to choose between something like an American University or Miltary Base- I would favor the University. But an US Miltary base could easily be in the Iraqi's national interest and I think we should be willing to have a miltary base there- but it simply shouldn't our highest priority [we could just as easily strenthen our presense in Turkey or better yet in Kurdish zone- and get a strengthen presence in region- though not sure a strengthen presence in region is needed.
Well, got to go, but there other factors I've haven't the time to mention.
