It's all cultural. Cubans traditionally celebrate Christmas differently.
On Christmas eve, they roast a pig in a pit in the yard and everybody stuffs themselves. After dark, the grown-ups dress up and go night-clubbing, boozing and dancing until midnight, when they go to Mass (if they are strict practicing Catholics, most Cubans aren't). They call it Noche Buena, the "Good Night". On Christmas day they sleep it off.
The rugrats get their presents from the Wise Men on the Epiphany, 6 Jan.
