You are dealing with some of the best and brightest of the corporate world that understand control of market share depends on some form of thought control. In marketing it is called both PR and advertising. In politics it is focus groups, think tanks, and media manipulation. And if the media can't be manipulated, a way to control them has to be found......intimidation works pretty well.
After all, you are dealing with people that have no problem with using pejoritive language to influence public opinion to push their points. A great example is switching the lable on Inheritance Taxes to Death Taxes. Hey, that paints a stark and very understandable picture---even to someone who will never have to be concerned about getting an inheritance, but he will know what death is. The fact that the legistlation will only benefit about 5,000 Americans is of no matter to anyone other than that 5,000 that are intent to establishing an aristocracy of weath.
Republicans have no surprises, only consistent pursuit of agenda.
