picture is, as picture does - especially around the eyes. This shows up again and again in impromptu pics of public figures. Gibson's photos show an arrogant, self-obsessed borderline-psycho. Any of the films he's been in which I caught on TV showed him playing this type of cop character. And, that's not even mentioning his sadistic pornfest which many people sadly still take for a religious movie. Which BTW says a lot about THEM and their nasty, sadomasochistic conception of religion. Is that what you mean by 'damned good work'? Well, all power to you , then.
I am not much of a media animal but I have never seen pics of Bush looking psycho or totally neurotic. He usually just looks dumb or clueless, which again is part of his character. And Kerry is an unprincipled pretentious turd, so I'm sure there would be some interesting reflections of that, although I haven't seen them.
It's also too bad you are a victim of this bullshit high-school equation of genius=madness. There are enough examples in history to pull the rug from that one. Real geniuses like Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Brahms and Stravinsky, many of whom raised families and had stable careers. Actually BTW, it has recently been revealed that Mozart died a wealthy man, not at all the tortured pauper which dreck like "Amadeus" tried to portray.
And he didn't go around proclaiming that his own wife will surely go to hell, for not following the exact correct religious doctrines. In fact, Bach, a practicing Lutheran, was able to write Catholic masses like the St Mathew Passion. Stravinsky, a devout Roman Catholic, was able to write cantatas in Hebrew, and was known for his fascinating, sociable character.
"Damned good work" by a "tortured artist"? - Pull the other one Tom, and grow up.
