In a dramatic show of capitalistic success in agriculture Bush has revitalized an agribusiness that grew in the past year at a 40% rate. And mind you this enterprise had been virtually eradicated in 2000. The UN reports that over 370,000 acres were put into production in the past year alone, up from 257,000 acres in 2005. The Bush administration is obviously takking great pride in this accomplishment. To go from a dead agribusiness position in 2000 to having your product supply 90% of the world market is a huge leap without much precident.
The U.N. Office on Drugs and Crime estimate that the Afghan opium trade accounted for 52% of GDP for Afghanistan. And once again Mr. Bush has show his role in being a "uniter and not a divider" in creating an atmosphere in which the Taliban, the poppy farmers, and the Warlords ---all past deadly foes--have come together as allies in their common cause.
Afghan president Hamid Karzai, in a recent interview in Fortune magazine said, "lots of people" in his administration profited from the narcotics trade. Find a need and fill it, the Republican way.
It certainly is inspiring to examine the Bush success in bring democracy to Afghanistan and Iraq.
