You hit a well-known Republican nerve. They are modest to a fault, reluctant to take credit even for what they have done, let alone what they haven't.
Take Iraq. A mess, Bush's from the start. And yet have you seen him take credit for that mess? No. Modest.
Same with Afghanistan, balance of payments, trade deficit, torture of innocents, price of gas, too many to list here.
Bush claims no credit, where in reality all of those can be shown to have been predicted as a result of his policies and have come to pass.
In an arrogant world such humility is like a gallon of cheap gas to a Katrina victim, a breath of fresh air to an interrogated Iraqi.
A puzzlement, unexplained. Isn't "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED" supposed to occur AFTER "stay the course"? Else, why "stay the course"? Does one continue, for instance, to run a race after it's won?
Unless it's an attempt at disinformation to keep the enemy off track, so they don't notice the ongoing stuff. Could be.
