Hi, Mark.
So, they have names and *geological status*, aka: Terrestrial: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars; Belts: Asteroidal, as in asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter; Gas Giants: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune; Kuiper Belt Objects (presently known as *KBO's*, of which Pluto has been theorized as being a member of). Last, but not least, the members that make up the Oort Cloud (Zena?!).
As far as naming these 'things' and classifying them by their geological makeup, so far, so good... even if they were and have been 'captured' for some time by our gas giants... what of Titan? If Pluto has to be re-classified, so be it, no big deal. Everyone knows that that was the ONLY 'planet' that hasn't been fully explored.
When you mention the "local area", I think of the terrestrials (just before the asteroid belt). :}
Thanks for the Pluto 3D orbit sim.
