I would interpret that to mean the United States, as represented by Republican neo-cons, and the values the left opposes would be strictly Republican values?
Gosh, forgive me, there I go again asking questions to which I already know the answer.
I was responding to this imbecilic statement, which has little or nothing to do with a long-term history of the leftist movement in the United States and elsewhere. They spent the 70s and 80s backing pretty much every communist goon that raised his head across the world. The only thing required for someone to get their support was to be against America. Now that the communists aren't much of an issue any more (the leftists still root for Castro, Chavez, and others of that ilk), the Islamists get the benefit of the doubt from them, and for the same reason. Anyone who thinks Amerikka sucks is okay by them.
Not one damn thing, almost to the word, has changed in the rhetoric in twenty years, and right now I am reading in the news and on the Net the same class of useful idiots making excuses for, justifying, and defending Iran, including why Iran SHOULD be allowed to have nuclear weapons, and how their leader isn't really the lunatic that years of his past history might indicate.
An eight-year-old would realize the significance of European leftists marching side by side with Hezbollah flags, considering the philosophies of both agencies. For God's sake, THINK. What is the Left supposed to represent as a philosophy? And Hezbollah? A number of old-time liberals and classical leftists abandoned the movement when they saw the bedfellows that were coming in. Many others didn't.
