If you actually gave a rat's ass what the truth was, five minutes of looking would have given you Leahy's statements, quoted, not imagined, by the columnist.

Transcript from CNN

Joining me now by telephone to talk about that is David Leahy, the elections supervisor here in Miami-Dade County.

Mr. Leahy, thanks for joining us this afternoon.

DAVID LEAHY, MIAMI-DADE CANVASSING BOARD: You're welcome, Frank.

BUCKLEY: We wanted to ask you, wanted to ask you first of all, sir, the -- some people are suggesting that you and other members of the canvassing board were in some way intimidated by the protests that took place on Wednesday. To what extent were you influenced by those protests?

LEAHY: I was not intimidated. My vote to suspend the hand tally of the votes in Miami-Dade County had nothing to do with the protest. It simply had to do with not enough time or logistical support to complete the hand recount by the deadline set by the state supreme court.

BUCKLEY: Could you hear the protests when you were in the tabulation room, which was behind a closed door and a window, could you hear the protests that were going on outside, and could you give us a sense of the nature of the discussions that you had with other canvassing board members as it related to that noise that was taking place on the 19th floor?

LEAHY: Well, we could hear the noise. The doors to the tabulation room were open at that point. Our discussion was with party observers. We were trying to set up the process to segregate the additional unvoted ballots out and also to begin the inspection of the 10,750 ballots that were undervoted.

So it really -- we did not discuss the noise. It was -- we were cognizant of the fact that there was a protest going on. They wanted to be in with the canvassing board as it made its decisions on the unvoted ballots, and ultimately that's why we went down, back down to the large conference rooms, where anybody could hear our deliberations.

And we also got the same request from the news media, that wanted access to -- full access to the county canvassing board.

BUCKLEY: Some 390 or so ballots had been counted by hand that had been identified as votes for a specific presidential candidate, yet those ballots are not going to be counted in the total that Miami- Dade County puts forward to the secretary of state. Why not at least put forward a partial recount of those ballots?

LEAHY: Those would be skewed results. What we did, we started the hand counting process, we started doing it in precinct order. A good number of the precincts that we've done thus far and the unvoted ballots that we looked at thus far are from heavily Democratic precincts. I would be uncomfortable and unwilling to certify unless I -- we finished the entire county and everybody's vote got a fair chance to be counted.

BUCKLEY: David Leahy, election supervisor here in Miami-Dade County, thank you very much for joining us, sir.
