I live quite a ways south of San Francisco.

I don't even like driving there, and go only when I'm taking the family to a concert or comedy show. These old commies are locally grown in Silicon Valley.

Plenty of hippies and commies when I went to college. Libertarianism was cooler than then it is now, and they still hadn't figured out that the term "Libertarian Party" was an oxymoron. I dropped away from the formal Libertarian movement when I went to a party convention and saw the information table for NAMBLA.

Ayn Rand hated libertarianism, which she said confused political freedom and moral anarchy. She pointed out that political freedom is useless unless one has a consistent and proper set of moral principles underlying it, and believed, correctly or not, that most libertarians thought anything at all was proper as long as it didn't hurt anyone else.

There were a LOT of libertarian hippies.

As for commies, I get a kick out of listening to the rhetoric now with the war against Islamic radicalism. It's almost word for word what I was getting from the socialists in college about the Cold War.
