Messinian Salinity Crisis

Hi Larry

A geophysicist friend of mine believes the Flood was that same event. He does admit it's quite an ask for any kind of record of that event to have survived the 5.5 million years since it occurred, so he believes Moses was told about the event directly by God.

However the most likely scenario for our particular Flood myth - and there isn't just one worldwide, just a similar trope all storytelling cultures fall into - is the mutual flooding of the Tigris and Euphrates. Robert Best has published an interesting book which describes Noah as being a successful trader who survived by putting his family and flocks onto one of his river-barges. However Best believes the original tale has Noah landing on Bahrain, and only later retellings put the Ark's shipwreck in the mountains.

Personally I think the Isaac Asimov scenario is the more interesting.
