Practical applications

While this has promise for spaceflight, specifically the propulsion niche currently occupied by ion engines, I don't see much use for earth applications unless someone comes up with a room-temp superconductor.

I'll believe 30,000 newtons (about 6,700 lbs) from a kilowatt of power when I see it. The shaft horsepower on a typical helicopter is about 1400. Which, if my math hasn't failed me, is about a megawatt.
