This is written at a higher literacy level than most magazines and newspapers today. When do you think the decline began? And why?

I know this would have been considered middle or high school level material when I was in sixth grade, so it was at least in the late 50s/early 60s. The decline in standards accellerated after the 60s, but that's not when it started.
