An adult trained in dealing with folks who are mentally disturbed, would realize that was the wrong suggestion to make. While it was self-sacrificial it reaffirmed the violent outcome in his mind. Her sister seconding that motion was a double whammy for reinforcing a fatal outcome.
But she was a child and for her, her efforts were of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others.
"You don't want to do this." would have been a better line.
Folks that are possessed are literally possessed. The owner of that mind has been pushed into a corner while some entity runs rampage through and takes over the thought processes. The goal is to dislodge that obsession from the individual and reach the weak mind underneath in the corner.
Addressing the obsession is one direct way that gets their attention fast:
"Why have you taken over this man's mind! Get out!"
When they realize someone is on to them and can interact with them on their plane of existence, they get a bit more concerned.
You see they don't mind putting a bullet in the brain of their host body. They stick around just long enough to complete their misdeed, kill their host and then they are off. The entity/entities that did this are still loose despite the perps apparent suicide.
Like some bad sci-fi plot sometimes truth is far stranger than fiction. There are folks who can police these astral planes as well, and who dislodge and extricate these malicious, murderous entities.
Here is a real good lesson for HZ-ers on the power of hate. This man reinforced hate of sufficient quantity and low frequency that he attracted an entity of that level. Like calling up demons with a bullhorn, strong hate, will draw them right to you and they will feed off of this hate and take over the hate-filled person's mind.
I speak repeatedly against hate - and this is a good example of why I do. Everyone here is in the same boat. If they allow hate to overcome them they can find themselves just as possessed as this milkman, a supposedly good, attentive family-man, was.
The lower entities' best ally is ignorance and acceptance by the host mind. If they don't believe in possession, they much more easily embrace the evil dreams, evil thoughts and psychotic images an entity can place in their head - as their own. It is this awareness of foreign threats to one's mind and a constant conscious thought restriction one must put around one's mind that protects one from these lower forces. Acceptance is what the entity wants as it progressively takes over the individual.
If you could see just how much human misery, violence, suffering and cruelty are exacerbated by external influence you would literally be in a state of shock.
In what has to be one of the world's most ironic twists, the old withch doctors were right. They understood possession - they just had an unrealistic way of dealing with it, with scary masks and rattles to frighten the entity out of the body.
A good book for folks to read would be The Planet of the Dreamers by John MacDonald, written way back in the fifties. Good ol' John was positively overshadowed when he wrote than one.
I'm not one for forgiveness. I forgive nothing, because I condemn nothing. I'm all about understanding. Understanding leads to a lack of violent emotion, prejudice, fear, etcetera. Greater clarity of thought and a more constructive life are the rewards of those who escape the sin/forgiveness mindset and embrace a balanced understanding of the how and why and give and take of all things.
