But I welcome the first prosecution of genuine treason in fifty years. This case demonstrates that the reality of treason as defined in the Constitution is reasoned, restrained, considered, and responsible...everything that the RightWing fantasy of treason is not.

The point is well-reinforced by the related charge: Providing material aid to terrorists. "Material aid" nicely conforms to the Constitution's definition of "giving aid and comfort". The Founders weren't frivolous demagogues, and as in everything else they did, the intended for the treason provision to be taken seriously and treated with the utmost respect. Of course they meant material aid and comfort. The Founders were nothing like today's New Right, and the Founders weren't idiots.
