They're not using it on Americans.

Although I can see that, with the typical "drift" from the facts, in about five more posts here everyone will be referring to it as the "spy on Americans who hate Bush" program.

Do you believe nobody in our government should be looking at foreign newspaper articles? Why or why not?

If we had another attack, the same people demanding that we shut down surveillance would be screaming that nobody did anything to stop it. I wish to God you had a proper historical search on this site. You should have seen it after 9/11. "Connecting the dots" was a watchword here. Who the hell do you think the "dots" are, and how do you think they're connnected?

A true libertarian might say that pure freedom is worth a certain number of lives lost to terror. That the trade-off is unavoidable, like freedom to drive and the highway death toll.

How many lives is it worth to you to keep a computer from looking at foreign articles? Or not track phone calls to terrorist numbers? Or not trace terror finances? All things that liberals have demanded be shut down.
