The Zone mostly has precedents, and a policy of making things up as we go, which I think results in responses better-targeted at specific problems than reading from a rulebook.
I'm not sure how you're mapping the NFL threat to something that might happen here. Broadly speaking, if we were to observe suspicious activity, we'd take appropriate action. "Suspicious" is unlikely to apply to regulars, except in the narrow sense of a sudden deviation from longstanding personality or behavior patterns. Posts by unknown people get scrutiny, and one-time and/or cryptic posts draw serious attention. An open board like the Zone could theoretically be used as a message drop in some type of nefarious activity.
Responding to suspicious posts sometimes requires delicacy. I might not remove a suspicious post immediately, while I investigate, and to see if the person posts again. I might not draw visible attention to the post, either. This is one of those areas, I think, where it's necessary to trust that the moderators are watching over the boards. Not every moderation action is appropriately taken in the open, especially security actions.
I realize that I'm being a bit cryptic, because a facility's security system is best kept low-key and unobtrusive, and you don't want to give away too much to potential badguys. I hope it's sufficient to say that moderators stand between the light and the dark, at the edge of our circle of light, watching the shadows for threats. You can relax and go on about your daily business with a modicum of security knowing that the mods are standing guard.
Your post inspired me to post a security briefing in the ModSquad Lounge bringing the new inductees up to speed. Thanks for reminding me.
