In my area a two term incumbent county commissioner is stepping down and endorsing the Democratic party candidate. The local Republicans are convinced this is apostacy and the local John Birchers are buying up all the white sheets and tar they can find.

The commissioner simply said he thought his friend belongs to the wrong political party, but in spite of that, he was the best man for the position. He said he based that on knowing the man for many years and counting him as his friend. For that he is being villified to an extent we have never seen in our peaceful little area. It would be funny if it weren't so sad.

I have to confess I am enjoying the consternation of these pious gops that had this man elevated to a demigod in the last election and have now decided he is indeed the anti-Christ.
