Super Hot Early Earth

Hi All

Seems Earth was especially steamy even 3.5 Gya... 158 F (70 C, 343 K)!!!

Some clever geochemical studies on old cherts reveals Earth cooled slowly and only reached an average of 20 C at the late Pre-Cambrian. That's still 5 C hotter than today.

Charles Lineweaver speculated on this process as a brake on Life's development in a paper a couple of years ago. Seems his case is even stronger.
