I ran into that last time I went to Windows Update. I don't recall that IE7 was on the list, or I'd have unchecked it; but I came back to the computer to find that big dialog pretty much demanding that I install IE7. I cancelled, because as a Web designer I have to design against the most common browser, which will be IE6 for some time to come. Browser compatibility is one area that requires me to stay well back from the bleeding edge of technology.
That's Microsoft for ya. I think they're just habitually coercive, and rarely even notice they're doing it, any more than the 800 pound gorilla notices. One thing that makes my life permanently difficult is the way MS "encourages" people to adopt their latest technology by removing documentation and support for current technology. The path of least resistance is always to send more money to Redmond.
And I think the weather today sucks, too. So?
