I have never had it auto install. I just tried it a couple of times with bad results. The second time, I confess, was because I forgot the first time. :(

I have my computer set to auto-download but I have to approve installation. You can then uncheck the things you don't want, using custom installation. You will get a dialog box that asks you if you want to be reminded to install. Just check never remind me and you are (hopefully) done with it.
