That was a touching and very human expression of what marriage is to you. The religious aspects and tradition are peculiar to the participant. But you did express one universal that transends any religious imput, but certainly doesn't exclude it. And that is the point that in essense, marriage for whatever it might be in the religious contex, and whatever it might be for the gay population, is a contractual partnership arrangement. This isn't altered by sanctioning the event by a church, State, Sea captain or whatever.

The fact that many marriages fail is a reflection of how difficult an arrangement a partnership is. Maintaining the relationship is something that requires a commited ongoing effort by both partners. This is tough. It is also one of the most rewarding endeavors possible in a business or a marriage it represent a triumph of partners over the many speed bumps on the road of a life well lived.

Tom, I saulte your triumph thus far and wish you continued success on life's journey with your partner. She has to have a marvelous disposition to put up with your intransigence. (But I have a sneaking suspicion this is a persona you reserve for these boards.)
