I'm curious - what other factors were important in generating the Islamist threat?

Are you saying that the threat would still be of similar magnitude were it not for "America's imperialist foreign policies, our support of Israel, and the evil Bush"?

And by the way, I've asked you a couple of times now, but you keep dodging.... how many people do you think there are worldwide who are willing to die for Islam in atacks against the West? Not how many sympathize with the cause, not how many think that suicide bombings might be justified under some circumstances, not how many think that western civilization is decadent. How many would actually be willing to blow themselves up, or risk being shot, in order to strike a blow in the current "war on terror"?

No need for exhaustive web searches or anything, I don't want to burden you further - just an estimate from your perspecive.

A second question, one that might be harder to answer - How many of the above feel that they are defending Islam and/or their homeland, as opposed to promoting the spread of Islam?
