But please note...

Before you get all depressed and paranoid and hide under your bed,
that the Web site this theory came from is actually meant as a guide
for those who want to create scientifically realistic role playing games.

So their ultimate focus is on space battles, not peaceful negotiations
or exploration for the sake of knowledge. As The Simpsons showed with
the episode where Marge forced the networks to remove all violence and
hatred from the Itchy and Scratchy cartoons and replace them with peace
and love, the ratings immediately tanked. Thus too, how many RPGs do
you know that didn't have an alien or an elf war battle as their main focus
last beyond a month?

The Universe may indeed be a nasty place full of beings who aren't all
that different from us in terms of motives at least, but I would like to
think and hope (I know, it's not allowed here, but...) that at least some
of the more evolved ETI do not have to resort to territoriality and war
if for no other reason that they are too sophisticated to be harmed by
lower life forms.

Of course if they decide to make the galaxy more efficient in terms of
energy resources and need our star - at least let's hope they'll let us
live somewhere on the Dyson Shell.
