First, Daniel Mazanek suggests a lunar system as part of a Earth and space base detection system because the Moon cannot offer a timely detection of may of the comets and NEAs. So where are you getting 45 minutes from Ed?
Yet, he doesn't point out that a Lunar based system is actually an unnecessary and costly component of a system capable of complete detection. An space based and Earth bases system can do it all alone without the need to support a manned base on the surface of the Moon. He instead points out if you have a Moonbase you might as well also make a lunar detection system because it can be used for exoplanet research as well. This is not the argument for a main line defense or even a secondary system.

The whole thread (32 posts)
- 3 out of 4 18-24 year olds oppose spending money on sending men to Mars
- Actually that general apathy in the actual youth holds true for all things science and manned Lunar missions as well.
- NASA can't explain why we need a lunar colony
