Do you have any references that support your claim?
I haven't seen any overturning of the consensus that these are concretions and I still interpret them as concretions. I am not surprised to see them in Gusev. There may well have been the same process of ground 'water' seeping to the surface in the Columbia Hills, only on a much smaller scale.
