re: "...no large stockpiles were found,..."

In my mind there is no doubt that the quantity and quality of the total stockpile that has be found [even if all of it was previously organized to be used] was not a threat to US forces. In others words had it been known that this was all Saddam had to use against US forces, the US force should not been ordered to have and use chem suits. Considering what Saddam was up against it would been like pissing into the wind for him to use such ineffective and small quantities of chemical weapons. But this is not to say that any of these chemical weapons could not be used against civilians who were unaware that they were being attacked, and that the result of the attack was far more people killed or wounded than from your suicide bomber using high explosives.

As far as I know (which isn't much), Iraqi forces did not use chemical or biological weapons against coalition forces during the Persian Gulf War (1990-91). And no Iraqi chemical or biological weapons were used against unsuspecting Americans in their shopping malls during or after the war.

However, in August 2002, British intelligence found credible information provided to them by their "reliable" contact in Iraq, a senior Iraqi military officer, that Iraq had the capacity to deliver chemical or biological warheads against their enemies within 45 minutes of Saddam giving the order to attack.

WMD-wise, Iraq turned out not to be a direct, imminent threat to the United States.
