More than just winners and losers in war.
And it's not a liberal thing at all. In warfare you can conduct yourself more like the Japanese in China and the Phillipines; conscripting anyone you want for whatever purpose you want; slavery, starvation for fun, experimentation to destruction, execution... Or you can choose to conduct yourself more like the Americans did. Using Red Cross guidelines, following Geneva, forgoing barbarism does not make you a loser, nor a communist (historically, quite the opposite!), nor a liberal.
It makes you civilized. Sorry you don't understand that.
