There's a place in the Grand Canyon where we see (from the river) hundreds of meters of very steeply inclined layers. Normally, all layers are horizontal, but there not.....It did sound very much like a very sudden event. It was the cliff directly facing the river. I don't think this was visible all the way to the top.
