I think the divisions on the board are an overflow from the political divisions. I know, there are folks who become abusive over other things, but basically I believe it stems from politics.
The frustration of the black-and-white, win-lose, thinkers with the folks who look at situations, and vice versa is polarizing.
The irritation the folks who regard America as being able to do no wrong with the people who believe there is a wider reality is a reflection of the extremists running the foreign policies of this country.
It's a clash of the "good or evil" folks with those who believe one receives what one sows.
The Space board works, despite some recent juvenile efforts to inject politics, because it's not political. All Space efforts are respected, Japanese, European, Chinese, American, Russian, etc.
I for one find it hard to respect people I regard as promoting what I view as cruelty, and they find it difficult to respect someone they regard as appeasers.
With a more middle-of-the-road government it may get better. That will be after the blaming for the fiasco in Iraq and Afghanistan has run it's course, though.
And there are some intolerant people who become quite abusive of harmless others who just happen to believe in some off-the-wall concepts. It's ironic that one of the two biggest offenders started this thread. No hope there.

Great post. And I think the polarization is a reflection of these times.
