We can agree on that
That said, I had to tell you I got a real belly laugh from one of the most viciously twisted pieces of spin I've seen in a good long while:
DeMint Thanks Democrats for Agreeing to Accept Pelosi Earmark Disclosure Requirements
GREENVILLE, S.C. – U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement t....
“Senator Reid and I have reached a bipartisan agreement on earmark disclosure that is even stronger than what I had originally proposed. I’m very pleased Senate Democrats were willing to work with us on this important issue. This is a big step forward in achieving honest and open government, and it’s a major victory for American taxpayers.”
“The bipartisan agreement accepts all of the key provisions in my original amendment ....These important changes will expand the disclosure requirements in the underlying bill so that 100 percent of the earmarks will be disclosed rather than only 5 percent.
...
“I want to thank Senator Reid for agreeing to do the right thing and be completely transparent with Americans on how Congress spends their money.”
I love it! The guy wanted to sleaze by with disclosing 5% of the earmarks and Democrats rammed 100% down his throat ("even stronger than what I had originally proposed"), and he thanks them for being "transparent with Americans" and "doing the right thing"! And he thanks them for agreeing to their own Speaker's wishes!
One question for you and the Honorable Senator DeMint: Why did it take until the end of a twelve-year Republican reign in Congress and the election of a Democratic Congress for this to come about?
Man, what chhhhhhhutzpah!
