The key word is still "looney."
It's possible the Navy is being placed to enforce a possible sanctions blockade, which, while preferable to an actual attack on Iran, is still IMO not necessary at this point.

The President of Iran ran on economic issues. Not on destroying Israel. He's starting to get an earful on this, and that's good.
Note this other story speculating on possible economic warfare from another direction.
I'm hopeful that no military action will be necessary at all, either from us or Israel.
