Manned space is sexy, science is not.
No real reason to send men except for the collective ego. What are significant ISS accomplishments except to keep bodies alive that couldn't be done more efficiently with robots?
And I for one would like to see Man on Mars, Venus, too, for a visit, and beyond. But even more I'd like information on possible life on Mars, which could come decades sooner if funds weren't diverted to keeping large masses of protoplasm together first and spending whatever is left on science later.
