Too bad, I like his politics and experience, and anyone can be forgiven an occasional gaffe, but repeated stumbles like this make one wonder if there's a structural defect in the man and a tendency to shoot without aiming first.
Of course, to some people, this would be a virtue ("takes no crap from anyone", "tells it like it is", "calls a spade a spade").
