Because mills were closed to protect the "spotted owl".
Okay.
So, some conservationists got their way and stopped a little bit of logging here and there. Probably the older mills the state could buy back and designate to forest.

NOW, how many jobs do you think were lost THIS YEAR in the US alone due to OUTSOURCING?

(Maybe Tom can whip us up some statitistics!)
