I'll either take the mac dive, or I'll switch to Linux. I run a linux server at work (or used to, until I could punt it to someone else), I'm not looking forward to making the change, but I know that just about everything i do at home or at work can be done on Linux.
Some multimedia programs I have to use for work are not linux friendly, but I'll always be able to fnd a windows machine to do those tasks- or keep an older laptop with an XP pro around for a few years.
Vista looks like a debacle, form where I stand. Virtually no improvements in security... And from what I hear it looks even less secure than XP, which was less secure than 2000... Loads of DRM... Gargantuan consumer of system resources...
2000 was the last good Windows OS. And they pulled that one out largely I believe because they ahd to, after 95,98 and ME being horrific pieces of trash. Vista looks like another step down.

I expect XP to be my last Windows OS, ever
