Oh do I agree

The absolute worst director in my opinion for distorting real life action in films is John Woo. If I know he's directing, I will boycott the movie no matter who is starring in it. For this jerk there can never be too many explosions and sparks and enough bullets are expended before anyone is hit that there wouldn't be a square inch that wasn't riddled with bullet holes. People are within feet of major explosions and come out with mere cuts and bruises.

I think another area where we're being treated as children is in the depiction of computer interaction. We all use computers and know what kinds of cryptic messages come across them when errors occur. It's never this giant font concise text that says "Unauthorized Access". Passwords to major systems can't be broken on the first try. If one does a search of some simple phrase, the exact result doesn't pop up with complete information and pictures of the subject. Instead you get 10,000 hits on Google and have to spend days refining the criteria of parsing through the results.

I read a book recently on creating screenplays where this very successful screenwriter explained some of what we see. It's all a matter of time. If a hero arrives in his car, we would have no tolerance for him cruising around the block for two minutes looking for a parking place. There must be a spot directly in front of the door he wishes to enter with no other cars around the parking place that makes his entry into it difficult. The doorman must have intimate knowledge of the apartment the hero needs to get to. Major characters never need to pee or crap during their daily activities. In spite of being up for 3 days without sleep, they never yawn.
