I don't think I'd want to manouver a large airship in and around the heat and huge convection currents of a large fire, the thermals that they trigger can be HUGELY powerfull and I'd have thought that the structure of an airship might not be too fond of the heat either. At least a prop aircraft gets in, through the nasty area, and out fairly quickly.
